Role Description
Our Senior EC&I Engineer role involves the extensive application of engineering and scientific principles to deliver and optimise safe, sustainable solutions for the design, construction, production, and operation of systems, devices, machines, structures, and processes through the full lifecycle from requirements, to design, manufacture and commissioning. Practical experience and knowledge are required to deliver innovative products and services with the ability to take technical responsibility for complex engineering systems.
Taking the lead and guiding other engineers with different technical experience to deliver solutions that meet the technical and project requirements while having the skill sets necessary to develop technical staff to progress in their knowledge.
An enthusiasm for engineering combined with the ability to analyse complex problems and develop effective solutions using a strong understanding of engineering principles within a chosen discipline.
The ability to communicate is essential with excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly to non-engineers and stakeholders at all levels.
It is a broad and diverse role involving working in internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as with the end user in different locations. The role requires the practicing of sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion to deliver a successful solution.
The responsibilities will include functional and management activities, which require a good knowledge and understanding of commercial implications and compliance with legal requirements.
Responsibilities & Duties
As a Senior EC&I Engineer at M5tec, your responsibilities may include:
- Designing and specifying electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for industrial and high-assurance applications.
- The design, installation, and maintenance of electrical hardware and systems and instrumentation used to monitor and control these systems, machines and industrial processes.
- Developing control philosophies, functional design specifications, and system architectures and the implementation of systems that regulate, optimize, and maintain the behaviour of dynamic processes to achieve desired performance and stability.
- Selecting, integrating, and optimising power distribution systems, motors, drives, generators, transformers, and protection systems
- Specifying and integrating instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control elements for measuring variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, force, and displacement
- Applying control theory and automation principles to ensure systems operate predictably, efficiently, and safely
- Assisting with manufacture, build, testing, trials, and commissioning activities
- Engaging with clients, stakeholders, and end users, helping translate technical information into clear, practical outcomes
- Supporting project delivery while developing an understanding of commercial, contractual, and regulatory requirements
- Adhering to engineering standards, quality procedures, and health & safety requirements
What We’re Looking For
- A Minimum 2nd class degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronic engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 7 years of applied engineering and design experience in an engineering role preferably within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Subsea, Renewables, Oil and Gas and Defence.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Electrical power and distribution systems
- Control systems and automation
- Instrumentation and process measurement
- Control theory, modelling and feedback systems
- A practical, problem-solving approach to engineering challenges
- Successfully led a team of engineers to deliver an engineered solution
- Demonstrated successful application of complex engineering solutions
- Chartered / Incorporated engineer with relevant institution (or working towards)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with clients or end users
- A professional approach aligned with sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion
