Role Description

Our Senior Design Engineer role involves the extensive application of engineering and scientific principles to deliver and optimise safe, sustainable solutions for the design, construction, production, and operation of systems, devices, machines, structures, and processes through the full lifecycle from requirements, to design, manufacture and commissioning. Practical experience and knowledge are required to deliver innovative products and services with the ability to take technical responsibility for complex engineering systems.

Taking the lead and guiding other engineers with different technical experience to deliver solutions that meet the technical and project requirements while having the skill sets necessary to develop technical staff to progress in their knowledge.

An enthusiasm for engineering combined with the ability to analyse complex problems and develop effective solutions using a strong understanding of engineering principles within a chosen discipline.

The ability to communicate is essential with excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly to non-engineers and stakeholders at all levels.

It is a broad and diverse role involving working in internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as with the end user in different locations. The role requires the practicing of sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion to deliver a successful solution.

The responsibilities will include functional and management activities, which require a good knowledge and understanding of commercial implications and compliance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties

As a Senior Design Engineer at M5tTec, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for mechanical systems, products, and components
  • Creating and maintaining 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and design documentation
  • Performing engineering analysis and calculations, including stress, tolerance, and performance assessments
  • Selecting appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to meet performance, safety, and sustainability requirements
  • Producing and reviewing design justifications, reports, and technical specifications
  • Supporting prototyping, manufacture, build, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Collaborating with mechanical, structural, electrical, control, and software engineers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Working directly with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and communicate design intent clearly
  • Ensuring designs comply with industry standards, quality procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting project delivery with an understanding of commercial, contractual, and legal considerations

What We’re Looking For

  • A Minimum 2nd class degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronic engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years of applied engineering and design experience in an engineering role preferably within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Subsea, Renewables, Oil and Gas and Defence.
  • A practical, problem-solving approach to engineering challenges
  • Successfully led a team of engineers to deliver an engineered solution
  • Demonstrated successful application of complex engineering solutions
  • Chartered / Incorporated engineer with relevant institution (or working towards)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with clients or end users
  • A professional approach aligned with sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion
